May 27 2018, 10:12 pm

Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for Toronto today.

It’s currently 23.5°C in the City as of 11am, with a high of 28°C expected later this afternoon and a humidex value of 33°C.

According to Environment Canada, a special air quality statement is issued due to the possibility of deteriorating air quality.

Hot and sunny conditions are expected to cause increasing ground-level ozone concentrations in the area. Moderate risk AQHI values are expected throughout today with the potential of high risk AQHI values this afternoon in southwestern Ontario, and possibly Monday afternoon in extreme southwestern Ontario too.

Anyone with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.

Individuals are encouraged to consider reducing or rescheduling strenuous outdoor activities until the special air quality statement is lifted.
