With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, many of us will be heading home to spend some quality time with our families.
Hailing from the west coast, I was tempted to book a last minute flight home despite already knowing how expensive flights to Vancouver typically tend to be.
And despite this fact, I still wanted to test my luck and see if I could find a last minute deal. Boy, was I in for a laugh.
I quickly learned that there really is no such thing as a last minute ‘deal’ to Vancouver. And the cost of heading home would end up costing me $1282.36 for a quick four-day visit.
So this got me interested in trying to find other flight deals (at a much lower price point) for the Thanksgiving long weekend. Here’s where I could be going for far cheaper than old YVR:
You can fly to LAX for the long weekend for only $386 CAD round trip with United Airlines. Just imagine sun, beaches and plenty of celeb sightings. Despite having a quick layover in DC, this is a pretty great deal. Head to Tripsta to learn more.
Have you ever dreamed of visiting the city of love? For only $817 you can visit one of the most beautiful cities in the world this long weekend. Just imagine, you could stay at a quaint Airbnb in the center of town, visit the Louvre and have a picnic beneath the Eiffel Tower! Head to Skybooker to learn more.
If you only have a few days to visit, why not head to the city that never sleeps? You can leave Toronto on October 5th and return on the 10th (with a minor layover in DC) for only $376, which seems like a pretty amazing deal for a last minute trip to the Big Apple. Visit Flight Network for booking details.
For those interested in having some fun in the sun, we suggest checking out the last minute deals to Cancun. If you left later today and returned on Monday evening, you could snag a flight for only $409! Head to Kayak to learn more.
For those who grew up watching Full House, you can check out the Painted Ladies for only $560 this holiday long weekend. Your itinerary would include flying out on the 6th and then you could have three full days to explore the city (don’t forget to visit Alcatraz) and then you’ll be back in Toronto the evening of the 10th. Head to Kayak for details.
There are few cities more beautiful than Washington in the fall. Spend the weekend checking out the White House, National Mall, and the Lincoln Memorial, and you’ll see that the nation’s capital buzzes with endless sights to see and things to do. The flight from Toronto to DC is just over an hour, and for $657, you can save costs by staying at an Airbnb for the long weekend. Head to Flight Network for details.
If you want to do some serious sightseeing, we suggest heading to Havana for the long weekend. Here you can get lost in Havana Vieja, retrace Hemingway’s steps at his favorite hang-outs, and go back in time as you take in the stunning architecture and landscapes. For only $434 you can leave on the 6th and return on the 10th – the only catch is you have to have two layovers on the way home. Head to Momondo to learn more.
For only $417, you can head to the beautiful Peurto Vallarta for three action-packed days. Spend the long weekend lounging on the beach, exploring the historical landmarks and botanical gardens. Head to Tripsta to learn more!
