For the love of doughnuts! A whole community in Hamilton has rallied together following the riot on Locke Street this past weekend.

While police continue to investigate the acts of vandalism by a group of 30-some individuals now reportedly linked to the Hamilton Anarchist Bookfair, beloved local businesses are finding ways to turn lemons into lemonade in the aftermath.

Introducing the ‘Make Lemonade’ donut!! Created in response to “the roller coaster of a weekend” writes Donut Monster on Instagram as the bakeshop repairs the smashed windows at its Locke Street storefront.

“It’s got a lemonade glaze, and glass-like shards of lemon candy made by #HamOnt’s @sweetandsimpleco. But the sweetest part of this donut? All of the proceeds from this flavour will be donated to Indwell in support of local affordable housing initiatives!”

What could have been a terrible day turned into a day of encouragement and support shown through a determination to prevent senseless violent actions from holding the upper hand. We are thankful for all of you – every friend, every patron, every staff member – who reached out, pitched in, posted or voiced support for businesses and residents of #LockeStreet today. We felt your love radiate down the street. You all kept the conversation focused on reconciliation and we believe that shifted the focus of the day. Amazing things that happened today: – Customers offering all kinds of help, financial and otherwise, and generously tipping our hardworking staff. There was an amazing vibe in the shop today! – Other local businesses reaching out with their support including providing food for our amazing staff (@swisschaletca, @theheartyhooligan, @meritbrewing, @hellobaked and others!) -@firstontariocu generously providing a portion of our insurance deductible (Seriously. A bank. Freely giving money to help a business overcome hardship.) – Messages of love and peace written online and on our plywood windows by you for hundreds and even thousands of the citizens in our beautiful city to see. From our deepest hearts: thank you – near and far. Thank you. See you Tuesday morning with fresh donuts! And see you Saturday the 10th to share the love up and down @LockeStShops for #LoveLocke. 📷: @jasonthorne_rpp and @mainstreetwest
