Comedy legend Dane Cook performs back-to-back Toronto shows this Saturday

Even after 26 years in the business, comedy legend Dane Cook still gets a rush every time he steps on stage to perform.

“It’s just a glamourous to me today as it was when I started,” said Cook. “I get to share my ideas and have conversations with the audience every night. I feel privileged to be a professional comedian.”

Cook is headlining the Just For Laughs Comedy Tour 2016, and is on stage at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts with Vinny Fasline and John Campanelli. He promises a fun night of exploring relationships, communication, and more.

“It’s been three years since my last special, Troublemaker, which was all about dating in the modern world,” explained Cook. “I got great feedback from audiences, so I wanted to expand on it. The throughline is all about love.

“If you love comedy, in need of some laughs and an escape from the real world, come to the show. I’m going to kill it and everyone’s going to have a great time.”

Though Cook was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts and got his comedy start in Boston and New York, the platinum-selling comedian considers his Canadian tours a homecoming.

“My dad’s family came down from Prince Edward Island, and I grew up watching SCTV and wanting to emulate Martin Short,” Cook said. “I love the vibe in Canada, and they’re damn good audiences. There’s a certain exclusivity to the stuff I do in Canada.”

Cook’s comedy career includes many unique experiences, including selling-out Madison Square Garden, hosting the Teen Choice Awards, and starring in films like Good Luck Chuck and Pixar’s Planes. But performing stand-up is what he enjoys best.

“Finding something in a moment that’s relatable, and being able to share it authentically, is what I love,” said Cook. “My friend Patrice O’Neal, one of the best stand-ups I’ve ever known, said, “You can’t f*uck with the truth” and I’ve always took that to heart.”
