A few months ago, the Canada C3 expedition was looking for applicants to join this journey of a lifetime.

And today, the massive ship departs from Toronto to begin its epic expedition.

Celebrating Canada’s 150th Anniversary, Canada C3 launched its 150-day sailing journey today from Toronto to Victoria via the Northwest Passage.

Departing from HTO Park, the ship will travel 23,000 kilometres, exploring Canada from coast to coast to coast, over five months. The expedition will be divided into 15 legs ranging from seven to 12 days, each leg bringing a new group of participants on board to connect with communities and Canadians.

Canada C3

“Canada C3 is an epic journey from coast to coast to coast to connect Canadians and celebrate Canada in way that has never happened before. It is a signature project for Canada 150 with many rich and diverse layers and wonderful partnerships,” said Geoff Green, Canada C3 Founder and Expedition Leader, in a release. “A journey of reconciliation, education, science and adventure, Canada C3 will foster understanding, friendships, and connections. It is a journey for all Canadians to explore our enormous and wondrous coastline while considering the past, present and future of our country. I hope you will join us.”

Those interested can follow the journey through the project’s website, which has an interactive map of the expedition. The participants will also be documenting life on board, and on the adventures along the way.

The journey is expected to conclude in October across the country in Victoria, BC.
