You can experience a traditional old-fashioned Christmas in Toronto this month

From the shopping and the gifts to elaborate parties, the holidays can sometimes feel a little over the top.

In generations past, the holidays weren’t so much about shopping for hours on end and piling expensive presents under the tree. Instead, people used what they had to make gifts and homemade treats.

If you’ve grown a little tired of the hustle and bustle of the holidays, you might want to pay Toronto’s Black Creek Pioneer Village a visit this November or December to experience Village’s annual Old-Fashioned Christmas.

Taking place every weekend from November 17 through December 23, you can experience the sights and sounds of an authentic Victorian Christmas as you discover old traditions and perhaps even start some new ones of your own.

There’s plenty to see and do, including some holiday classics like singing Christmas carols, trimming a Christmas tree, and going on a horse-drawn wagon ride.

There will also be plenty of delicious treats to enjoy as well, like homemade mincemeat tarts, roasted chestnuts, apple cider and traditional flaming plum pudding.

Of course, no visit is complete without visiting the big man in red, who can be found in a quaint little cottage.
