Fresh off of calling out the US president at the Tony Awards and saying “F*** Trump,” Robert De Niro has publically apologized for his president’s behaviour at the G7 summit.

The critically acclaimed actor was in Toronto Monday afternoon to break ground at his new Nobu Toronto development alongside celebrity chef Nobu Matsuhisa, which is the world’s first integrated Nobu Residences, Nobu Hotel, and Nobu Restaurant.

Mayor John Tory was among the dignitaries at Monday’s groundbreaking ceremony.

During a speech at the groundbreaking ceremony, De Niro told those in attendance that he wanted to apologize for the idiotic behaviour of his president, which was reciprocated with loud cheers and applause.

“A note of apology for the idiotic behaviour of my president. It’s a disgrace and I apologize to Justin Trudeau and there other people at G7. It’s disgusting. It’s great to be here,” said De Niro.

Following the G7 Summit in Quebec this past weekend, Trump lashed out to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, calling him “very dishonest” and “weak.”

“PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our G7 meetings only to give a news conference after I left saying that, ‘US Tariffs were kind of insulting’ and he ‘will not be pushed around.’ Very dishonest & weak,” tweeted Trump. “Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy.”

Trump’s Twitter rant against Trudeau didn’t go unnoticed and Twitter feeds quickly became flooded with world-wide responses and reactions to the US President’s tasteless comments.

Trudeau’s former foreign policy advisor Roland Paris went as far as calling Trump “a pathetic little man-child.”

De Niro’s new Toronto development will be built at 15 Mercer Street, near King Street West and Blue Jays Way, in the city’s downtown core.
