At one time or another, everybody has played the licence plate game in traffic.

Have you ever been traveling and noticed a funny or interesting custom licence plate? And then noticed that we have none of that going on in Quebec?

Well, not any more.

Quebecers will finally be able to show some creativity on their vehicle’s plates too.

Quebec’s transport ministry and the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) have announced that personalized plates will be available for purchase on July 27.

The new customizable plates can range between two and seven characters as long as as the plate name remains respectful and tasteful.

Any owner or renter of a vehicle that is registered in Quebec will be able to obtain a personalized licence plate so long as the customer has owned or rented a vehicle for more than a year. Eligible vehicles must be registered within the SAAQ database.

Eligible vehicles include:

  • cars
  • trucks
  • motorcycles
  • scooters and mopeds
  • motor homes
  • snowmobiles
  • all-terrain vehicles

The service will be available exclusively through the Société’s website as of July 27.

The initial cost is $250 with an annual renewal fee of $34.50.

Well done, Quebec. The licence plate game just got a whole lot more entertaining.
