Montreal passengers hoping to be flying high, might want to reconsider.

Ahead of cannabis legalization, Aéroports de Montréal (ADM) has released a reminder regarding cannabis consumption and stated that the Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau “terminal is in a smoke-free environment” and that cannabis use is also not permitted anywhere on the airport site.

“This policy respects the orientations of the municipalities bordering the airport site,” reads the statement. “ADM’s corporate policy is designed to ensure the safety of operations, facilities and passengers, as well as the health and safety of the entire airport community, many of whose members perform daily tasks of an extremely sensitive and delicate nature.”

Additionally, the airport urged travellers to stay caught up with information regarding cannabis guidelines and travelling abroad. They also stressed that it is the traveller’s responsibility to comply at all times with applicable laws and regulations in the countries being visited when it comes to cannabis.

In a phone call with Daily Hive, a spokesperson for the Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau Airport said that they will have no tolerance for people attempting to smoke pot on terminal grounds and that airport security would immediately get involved, without warning.

The Cannabis and International travel page on the Government of Canada website also urges travellers to be diligent with the impending legalization of cannabis. “Under the Cannabis Act, the legalization of cannabis in Canada will not change Canada’s border rules. Taking cannabis or any product containing cannabis across Canada’s international borders will remain illegal and can result in serious criminal penalties both at home and abroad.”
