Montreal is developing an app-based game to be played along the Saint Lawrence River

Think Pokemon Go, but historical.

In honour of Montreal’s 375th birthday, the city has developed a virtual memory tour app that will explain the history of sites along the Saint Lawrence River.

The bilingual application covers the history of every site between la Maison Saint-Gabriel and the Lachine Museum, from New France to the present day.

Nearly 50 locations have been included on the app spanning some 17 kilometers of the river.

As you embark on this unofficial history tour, the game will teach users about each location through a mix of photographs, works, and writings.

There will also be two versions of the app: “one that is more informative, cultural and historical with audio clips and photos, accessible to all, and a playful one with a quest or a game, ideal for families.”

Finally, it will be compatible with both iPhones and Androids.

Launching May 3, 2017, get ready for one unique history lesson.
