Second Cup transforms old location into Toronto's newest cannabis store

Second Cup’s parent company has opened its first cannabis store in Toronto, as Hemisphere Cannabis takes over a location formerly belonging to the coffee chain.

With the new 1703 Avenue Road store, Hemisphere joins Second Cup and Bridgehead Coffee under the Aegis Brands corporate umbrella.

According to a release, the name of the store is inspired by navigation, as the in-store experience is meant to guide Canadians on their “cannabis purchase journey.”

“With Hemisphere, we’ve created an environment that’s entirely focused on matching customers with the right product for their desired experience — whether they’re shopping for cannabis for the first time ever, for the first time in a long time, or for the first time today,” Steven Pelton, CEO of Aegis Brands, said in a release.

The company adds that its budtenders have been trained to offer insight and advice on product selection.

There’s also some indication that this might not be the only Aegis property converted for the new brand. The CEO notes the company’s “unparalleled access to top tier real estate” in Canada creates “limitless” potential for Hemisphere.

The brand currently has plans to open six more cannabis stores in the province, including three more in Toronto, at 518 Eglinton Avenue West, 700 King Street West, and
65 Front Street East.

The remaining locations will be in Ajax, Ottawa, and Orleans.

Aegis Brands was created as part of a corporate restructuring at the end last year.
