The latest census shows that 10% of Calgary residents own at least one dog, and this July, they should all be at Pet-A-Palooza.

The event is the West Coast’s largest outdoor pet festival, and it will take place downtown at Eau Claire Plaza, before heading to Victoria and Vancouver in August.

This year more than 80 exhibitors will showcase what they can do for your pets. There will be plenty of food, samples of treats, accessories, toys, and free swag for fur babies, as well as drinks and eats for those with more human appetites.

The festival’s most popular events include Running of the Bulls (French and English bulldogs races), Wiener dog races, puppy stampede, and dock diving. Winners will receive prizes and credits from race sponsors.

The event is entirely free and welcomes all kinds of pets. However, if you’re looking to help some animals in need, donations are being accepted and will go toward Just Love Animal Society, a registered non-profit based out of Victoria, BC.

The weather in July will be hot, but your pets will be hydrated and refreshed with the installations of misting machines, kiddy pools, and a unicorn sprinkler.

So make sure to mark your calendars to join in on the fun at Eau Claire Plaza this July, bring your pups to sample treats, or just to enjoy some pure happiness brought to you by more than a thousand little doggos.
