5 things you need to see at the Calgary Renovation Show

Dec 16 2016, 3:42 am

Alberta’s top renovation, design, and home living companies are coming to the Calgary Renovation Show from January 13 to 15.

This is the show’s first year under its new name – it was formerly known as the Calgary Home Expo, and not surprisingly, it’s getting lots of hype. TV personalities Jillian Harris, Mike Holmes Jr., and Danielle Bryk will deliver talks on The Main Stage, and different workshops will be set up to give participants hands-on experience in redoing their homes.

We’ve compiled a list of the five most exciting exhibits and events you definitely don’t want to miss.

Interiors to Inspire Workshop Series

Your Pinterest board is about to come to life. Learn from the pros in a hands-on workshop series curated by Calgary’s favourite custom decorative painting artists at Interiors to Inspire. From cabinet rehab to shiplap walls to upcycling furniture, you’ll be able to create your very own unique handcrafted home décor with guidance from Calgary’s best design experts.

The Great Crate Challenge

You’ve never seen a crate look so great. Five of Calgary’s most design-savvy artisans and makers are getting creative by reimagining the humble wooden crate into a beautifully versatile piece of storage or home décor. Don’t miss Feathering My Nest’s Lacey Haskell, Lace Brick Design’s Jackie Lisa, and Milk and Honey YYC’s Kenzie Conrad prove that the crate’s possibilities are endless, from shelving and stash books, to a rustic spot for cozy blankets, or even flipped over to become a quaint perch.

Renovation Runway by Wicket Blue

Be in the front row of  2017’s renovation and home trends, right in the Calgary Renovation Show’s innovative home at Renovation Runway, designed by Wicket Blue Interiors. Stroll through the different rooms and themes to find a showcase of our exhibitors’ top product picks for every part of your next home renovation, all while getting the most cutting-edge ideas for the New Year. The runway is presented by CREB Now.

Ask a Renovator designed by WW Design Studio

Sometimes a little direction is all you need to tackle that daunting home project. Whether you’re a renovation rookie or a pro with the hammer, you can bring your DIY dilemmas straight to Ask A Renovator for a one-on-one consultation with local renovation experts and contractors of all kinds. No appointment needed – and the best part is it’s free. In just 10 minutes, their expert advice will have you well on your way to creating your dream home.

Playhouse Parade

You may find yourself playing in the backyard with the little ones more often after you’ve perused the Playhouse Parade. The shows let exhibitors’ imaginations run wild, getting them to create the ultimate play house using all the features of a dream home. The best part? You can place a bid for the chance to take a playhouse home. Each of the mini-masterpieces will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting the Rotary Flames House and the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation in memory of Lewiston Olstad.

The Calgary Renovation Show features more than 200 brands and local experts, so don’t think that these five are the only ones to see at the show.

The event will run from January 13 to 15 at the BMO Centre in Stampede Park. Tickets are $12 for adults, although you can save $3 if you buy online.
