A Port Coquitlam woman has died after a car crash in Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood on Wednesday evening.

The 62-year-old victim died at the scene after her car was struck by a motorist driving a van at the intersection of 72 Avenue and 152 Street, just after 6:30 pm.

An 84-year-old Port Coquitlam woman was in the car as well, and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Surrey RCMP said the alleged driver of the van – a 68-year-old Surrey man – was taken to hospital along with the 75-year-old passenger in his vehicle, both with “undetermined injuries.”

The driver of the van was arrested, however, no formal charges have been laid at this time, police added.

“Alcohol is being considered as a factor in this crash,” Surrey RCMP spokesperson Alanna Dunlop told Daily Hive. “We are looking into the driving history of the suspect vehicle just prior to this fatal collision.”

Surrey RCMP Traffic Services, the Integrated Collision Analyst and Reconstruction Services, and the BC Coroners Services continue to investigate the incident, Dunlop added.
If you have information about the crash, call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502, or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or at solvecrime.ca.
