Eat your heart out at Whistler's Mountain Top BBQ Series

Jul 29 2016, 4:33 am

Barbecues and summer practically go hand-in-hand, but what if you could experience the smoky flavours of cooked meat and corn on top of a mountain?

Whistler’s Mountain Top BBQ Series might be a good way to satisfy those cravings (it’s all-you-can-eat, after all) while enjoying gorgeous scenery.

The experience starts at the base of Blackcomb, where you take the Wizard Express and Solar Coaster Express up to the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola. In the same wicket where you buy your 360 Season Pass or lift ticket, you can buy your voucher for either the 5:30 or 7 p.m. BBQ seating.

Once you’re on the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola, have your camera ready for some prime Instagram opportunities.

Upon arrival at the top of Whistler Mountain, you’re just steps from Roundhouse Lodge, where the barbecue takes place. Fair warning: the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola only runs until 5 p.m., so if you’re sitting down for the 7 p.m. BBQ, get there a little early and have a glass of wine.

Although, the views from your alternative transportation option, the Whistler Gondola, aren’t too shabby either.

Once you enter the Roundhouse Lodge, you’re greeted by the smell of barbecue and friendly staff who will direct any questions you might have. You can either choose to stay inside and listen to the live music, or you can step outside onto the patio and enjoy the views.

While the music is fantastic, the views are irresistible.

And then there’s the food. The variety varies depending on the day, but there’s usually a solid selection of salads, corn, traditional barbecue side dishes like baked beans and roasted potatoes, and, of course, the grill.

At the grilling station, you’ll find either a whole suckling pig, Memphis-style pork ribs with hickory BBQ sauce, dry rub BBQ chicken, or roast beef.

Finish up your meal with a bit of cheeky dessert, including warm cobbler and brownies.

And while the food is certainly a draw, the views are what will keep you coming back for more.
