Laugh at Vancouver stereotypes at new theatre show "Avocado Toast" (CONTEST)

Jul 5 2018, 2:11 am

Welcome to Vancouver, possibly the easiest city in Canada to make fun of.

We get it. We like our coffee cultured, our craft beer local, our veggies organic, our hikes Instagram-able, and our avocado on toast. Our city is arguably too expensive, we get defensive about bike lanes (you have to pick a side, and it better be the right one), and complaining about the weather (when we know we have some of the mildest weather in Canada) is one of our favourite pastimes. It’s just who we are.

But, we also like to laugh at ourselves. And this summer, you can experience some real Lower Mainland laughs at Vancouver TheatreSports (VTS). Whether you’re a long-time local or a travelling tourist, you’ll find something funny at VTS’s newest feature show, Avocado Toast – Vancouver Grown, Organic Free-Range Comedy.

Using all the quirks and stereotypes the city has to offer, VTS’s quick-witted improvisers, along with suggestions from the audience, will craft a completely unique comedic experience. Which means if you come to see it more than once, it’ll be a different show entirely.

The show is taking place every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, at 7:30 pm this summer. And we’re giving one reader to free tickets to see the show on July 20. Before you ahead and enter the contest below, take a peek at this improv sketch from VTS as Chef Juanita shows you how to make the best avocado toast in the city.

It doesn’t end with avo toast at VTS and if you’re looking for more laughs, these are some of the other hilarious shows you can check out at the Improv Centre.

Taking place Mondays through Wednesdays at 7:30 pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 9:30 pm, these shows relying on razor-sharp wit and lightning-fast reflexes. Two teams of performers are pitted against each other in a competitive improv matches. Scenes are fueled by audience suggestions, and the winner is yours to judge.

Vancouver’s dating scene has everything from the good, the bad, and the laughable. Find out more for yourself on Wednesdays at 9:15 pm when Ok Tinder takes over the stage for 60 minutes.

Improv directors face-off and put a team of improvisers through a set of gruelling and hilarious improv formats during this show on Thursdays at 9:15 pm.

Enjoy 60 minutes of fast-paced, no-holds-barred comedy inspired by quirky stories found in weekly online news on Fridays and Saturdays 11:15 pm.

Catch the stars of tomorrow before they become famous on Sundays at 7:30 pm where you’ll get to enjoy 90 minutes of classic games and new formats.

Now, go ahead and enter to win tickets for one of the most hilarious shows you’ll see this summer.
