Vancouver is about to get a whole lot more colourful as 60 new street art murals, from 60 different artists, will adorn buildings to kick off the city’s largest public art celebration, Vancouver Mural Festival.
Presented by Create Vancouver Society, the second annual event will take over the city from August 2 to 12 and will feature more than just great art. Expect to soak in some music, devour delicious food, and even support local makers at a market.
You’ll also get to admire the work of more than 60 featured artists from both the Lower Mainland and around the world as they unveil at least 60 new murals in the Strathcona and Mount Pleasant areas.
This year’s festival showcases the work of renowned international artists, including:
Cinta Vidal (Spain)
Local artists being featured this year include AA Crew, Andy Dixon, Fiona Ackerman, Dedos, and Bracken Hanuse Corlett.
Vancouver Mural Festival was originally brought to life to transform the way in which art is seen in the city. It has created a series of events to strengthen the arts community here in the city, and the programming for the six-day festival highlights exactly that.
Some of the cool events taking place during Vancouver Mural Fest 2017:
- August 7 – Thrive artist talks: Mural edition
- August 8 – Supersnag live art night
- August 9 – VMF Speaker series
- August 10 – VMF: Year 2 – Official gallery show opening at Burrard Arts Foundation
- August 11 – VMF Painter’s prom – A VIP semi-formal at Beaumont Studios featuring live murals, Vancouver art battle, and music by Chapel Sound
You also have the option to check out some of the cool daytime events taking place throughout the festival. These include walking tours of the murals like ‘The Art of Brewing’ beer garden by Vancouver Craft Beer Week and ‘Alleyway Oasis’ featuring City Disco.
Hit up the Red Bull Tour Bus Stage and see performances by Yukon Blonde and Louise Burns. And later in the evening, programming includes unique club sounds at ‘Underplay’ with artists like Basia Bulat and We Are The City, presented by 102.7 The PEAK.
The festival will be ending on a high note with its flagship Mount Pleasant Street Party, taking place throughout the day on Saturday, August 12.
