Video shows kayaker's close encounter with humpback whale at Jericho Beach

A Vancouver man may have gotten more than he bargained for (in a good way) after he set out to see the humpback whale that’s been feeding in Vancouver’s waters lately.
The man was kayaking with a partner near Jericho Beach, when all of a sudden he saw small fish swimming to the surface in a frenzy.
“My heart started racing,” reads the caption on the video posted to Instagram. “I knew it was close.”
Suddenly, you can see the whale breach and its tail flip out of the water mere feet from the two men.
The humpback whale has been spotted several times in the past week, and we suspect this won’t be the last time.
