You can now get FREE WiFi everywhere in Vancouver

The City of Vancouver has expanded its free WiFi service, making #VanWiFi one of the largest free public networks in North America.

The expansion is happening in partnership with Shaw Communications, and means Vancouverites will now get free WiFi at more than 600 locations.

Around 550 free public WiFi locations are active as of today, with the rest of the locations being switched on over the coming months.

Bandwidth speed will generally be 10 Mbps and there is no limit or cap on data usage. No personal information is required to access the VanWiFi network.

The #VanWiFi project is part of the City’s Digital Strategy aimed at enhancing the public’s experience in Vancouver through online, mobile and social media channels.

How to connect to free public Wi-Fi

1. Select the network name (#VanWiFi/COV-Public/VPL) from your device’s WiFi settings menu.
2. Open your browser. You will be automatically redirected to the Wi-Fi terms and conditions page.
3. Read and accept the terms and conditions.
4. You will be connected to the internet.
