11 Vancouver food events to check out this week: October 30 to November 5

October is a fabulous month for food.

We’ve got Thanksgiving, Halloween, and all the pumpkin spice-flavoured goodies you can get your freshly-gloved hands on.

With so much going on, we almost forget that summer is behind us and the cold weather is here – but at least our bellies will be warm.

Here are 11 Vancouver food events, in or around the city, worth checking out this week.

Game On Afternoon Tea at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver

This themed tea offers a selection of goodies such as house made scones, along with cleverly-named offerings such at the savoury ‘Go Fish’ Niscoise Sandwich and Chess-nut Tart (Candied Chestnut, Duck Confit), and sweet treats like the Double Domino Lemon Tart, Red Velvet XO Macaron, and the Checkmate Battenberg Cake to name a few.

Tipsy Tea at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver

The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver has taken their tea to the next level this time by offering a ‘Tipsy Tea’ 19+ event which runs Friday evenings from October 6 to November 17 at 7 pm. This event is $75 per person. This means you need to get your crew together, head to the tea room in Notch8 Restaurant + Bar, and bring your appetite and your competitive spirit. You’ll be going head to head in games like Snakes & Ladders, Operation, and the Game of Life.

Oktoberfest offerings at HandleBar Cafe and Apres

HandleBar Cafe and Apres in Whistler is offering Oktoberfest offerings all month long. HandleBar will be featuring a number of food and beer specials and pairings, including craft beer and German street food such as pretzels, bratwurst, and schnitzel. Patrons can also expect special casks, beer deals, and tap takeovers throughout the entire month of October.

What’s Up? HotDog! becomes Bob’s Burgers

What’s Up? HotDog! in East Vancouver is transforming into the Bob’s Burgers restaurant for the third year in a row to celebrate Halloween with patrons. The Fox TV cartoon series is a cult favourite, so What’s Up? HotDog is gearing up for an even bigger event than last year. The takeover will feature all the Bob-themed dishes from last year’s special menu, along with brand new creations, surely all named after our favourite cartoon burger shop.

The Witchery- Halloween Samhain Dinner

The Vancouver Health Show is a two day consumer event for the health conscious individual. The Vancouver Tea Festival is back this year for its fourth annual celebration of all things tea. On Saturday, November 4 and Sunday, November 5, head to the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Vancouver and the adjacent Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden to dive into the world of the planet’s most consumed beverage (other than water, of course).

Fraser Valley Wine Festival 2017

Known as the Fraser Valley Wine Festival, the event is taking place in Langley on Saturday, November 4 at the Willowbrook Shopping Centre from 7 to 9:30 pm. The 19+ event is hosted by the Rotary Club of Langley Central and tickets are just $55 for “all the wine you can handle.” As well as the different pourings that patrons will be able to enjoy, 12 different Langley restaurants will also be serving up hot and cold hors d’oeuvres.
