7 Vancouver food events to check out this week, June 19 to 25

Are you ready for summer, Vancouver? It’s time to take the plunge into three months of sun, fun, and lots of delicious food and drinks. To help you plan this span that takes us from spring to summer, here are TK Vancouver food events to check out this week, June 19 to 25, 2017.

1. Vancouver Foodster’s Chicken Wing Challenge

Restaurants from all over the city are showing off their Chicken Wing creations in this exciting challenge, including many who created a dish just for the event. Each restaurant will be featuring their Chicken Wings creation on their menu from June 8 through 29, and your job (such work!) is to taste as many as you can and cast your vote for the people’s choice.

2. Canada 150 Afternoon Tea at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver

For their limited time Canada 150 Afternoon Tea, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver has designed a menu that essentially allows you to travel Canada coast to coast in every single bite, from a creamy lobster roll inspired by Atlantic Canada to a Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich, and even a chocolate-dipped Nanaimo Bar for dessert. It’s refined, but not fussy, and probably the most filling tea time you’ll ever experience.

When: Now through September 3; daily sittings at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm

3. Dinner & Demo: Plan a Summer Party

Be ready to host the easiest, most delicious summer party after learning to make gazpacho, foccacia, beef kofta kebabs and panna cotta. Enjoy all the food with wine after the demonstration and take recipes home.

4. Chianti Dinner at Cibo Trattoria

The event will pair a four-course Italian meal with an variety of Chianti picked by award-winning sommelier and General Manager and Wine Director of Cibo, Mark Taylor.

When: Wednesday, June 21 at 6:30 pm

5. Eat. Drink. Play

For this event the The Firehall Art Centre brings together restaurants, craft brewers, small-batch distillers, and performers for an exciting celebration. Patrons can expect offerings from establishments like The Diamond, Deacon’s Corner, Clough Club, Tuc Craft Kitchen, Kofta Meatball Kitchen, Save On Meats, The Pint, and Cadeaux Bakery, along with a silent auction and music.  

When: Thursday, June 22 at 7 pm

6. Turtle Valley Bison Ranch Fest

Turtle Valley Bison Company is hosting a day full of food and fun out at the ranch in Turtle Valley, BC. Day admission (11 am  to 4 pm) includes a ticket for the bison burger lunch, access to guided ranch tours, cooking demos by Vancouver guest chefs, a local vendors market, and more. The evening festival admission (4 to 10 pm) includes a bison dinner showcase from three BC chefs, music from Western Canadian bands, and local beers and wines.

7. Joy of Feeding 2017

This inter-generational and international annual fundraiser sees 13 home chefs from 13 different cultures serving up their favourite recipes at the UBC Farm, all to raise funds for the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems. Guests at this event can expect to roam and learn about the food and the culture behind it, all while enjoy live music, craft beer, and wine.

When: Saturday, June 24 from 5 pm to 8 pm
