12 Vancouver food events to check out this week, July 10 to 16

It’s mid-July and there’s never been a better time for firing up the grill, sipping on something delicious, and scooping some ice cream.

From plant-based goodness to epic meat feasts, here are 12 Vancouver food events happening in and around the city this week, July 10 to 16, 2017.

1. Say Hello Sweets Ice Cream Social

Say Hello Sweets has teamed up with Blue Heron Creamery & Amai Vegan Treats to pop up for one night only. The menu will include flights of ice cream, cheesecake by the slice, cheese plates & wine or kombucha. All of the eats are vegan-friendly, dairy-free, soy-free and gluten-free. There will be local wine, Spark Kombucha, and gluten-free ice cream cones from Smallflower Cafe & Bakeshop. Family-friendly. Admission is free, but registration is requested.

2. Can It! Jam & Pickling Workshop

Local flavours are here for a short time and then they are gone. Learn how to tuck away some of that tasty bounty as delicious jams and crunchy pickles. The event will be using local seasonal produce and you will be taking away two jars of tastiness to share at home while learning the basics of preserving. Registration required.

3. A Night of all-BC Wine, Cider, Mead, Cheese, Charcuterie, & Condiments

Salt Tasting Room offers up its communal table in their cellar for you to experience some of the finest that BC has to offer. Introduced by the irrepressible Rich Massy of Richard Massey Wine & Spirits. It’s an informal eating and learning session, with an approachable price for two tasting plates of food and two flights of drinks total per person.

4. Vancouver Farmers Markets’ 7th Annual Berry Festival

Taking place Wednesday at Main Street Station Market and Sunday at Mount Pleasant Market, the 7th annual Berry Festival includes everything for the berry lover, from berry tastings of farm-fresh offerings, recipes and storage tips, and of course: PIE. The pie happens Sunday at the BC Berry Pie Bake Off, which is open to professional and amateur bakers. And once the judging is done, the pies are sliced up and available for market shoppers to enjoy (with a donation).

5. Tasting Plates Vancouver Stadium District

At this event presented by Vancouver Foodster, attendees will explore the Stadium District area and stop into several restaurants and cafes. This tasting will be focusing on the Robson/Cambie, Expo Boulevard, to Abbott Street areas.

6. SIDECUT’s Summer BeerBQ

Whistler’s favourite BBQ is back!  This summer, SIDECUT at the Four Seasons Whistler will be partnering with different BC craft breweries every week, weaving beer into classic recipes and offering guests interesting pours and a wide selection of barbequed proteins, bright salads and satisfying sides, plus live entertainment. At this price it is more than worth the drive.

7. Fridays on Front

Kicking off on July 7, and running every Friday from 5 to 8 pm through August 25, the 600-block of Front Street will turn into a family-friendly market and hang-out zone, complete with artisan vendors from the New West Farmers Market and New West Craft, live music from the New Westminster Arts Council, and food trucks (which you may also catch at the Columbia StrEAT Food Truck Fest this July).

8. Across the Nation Celebration Lot Bash

Taste all 12 of the collaboration beers in the unprecedented Canada 150-inspired set Central City organized featuring brewers from across the country. There will be a BBQ with all the fixins, plus live music from the Cancons, and brewery tours. Central Central City is offering a free shuttle to and from the Scott Road SkyTrain station. 19+ event only.

9. Black Bamboo Pop-Up Cocktail Bar

The Black Bamboo Pop-Up Cocktail Bar at 1219 Granville Street is officially open from now until September 30, running every Friday and Saturday from 8 pm to 11 pm. You can make reservations up to two weeks in advance for this intimate, tropical-themed room which comes complete with live music, entertainment, champagne, and fresh cold-pressed juice cocktails. Patrons can expect something different on any given night, including rotating music themes like funk, hip hop, disco, and 90s jams.

10. Chicha’s AYCE Peruvian Street Meat BBQ

Chicha Restaurant is having their annual “All You Can Eat Peruvian Street Meat” BBQ this week. There will be every kind of Peruvian street meat and fish bbq imaginable, ceviches, roasted corn, all of the summer bbq sides. There will also be lots of local beers, wine and pisco cocktails flowing. The indoor-outdoor party will have the grill on the go, DJs playing music, and lots of spots for sun-soaking or shade sitting.

11. Sunday Seafood Boil Series at Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar

Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar is brining back their annual Sunday Seafood Boil Series returns for a third consecutive year. Limited to just 24 seats at each event, enjoy best fresh-caught selections of crawfish, jumbo prawns, clams, mussels and Dungeness crab, served in a traditional East Coast-style seafood boil piled high on butcher’s paper.
