Vancouver Police are investigating a double shooting in the city’s Eastside area that resulted in the deaths of two men, marking Vancouver’s fifth and sixth homicides in 2017.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 pm when officers responded to a report of a shooting in the area of East 31st Avenue and Inverness Street. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered a vehicle one block east on Ross Street with two men inside who incurred serious gunshot injuries.

A 49-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene while another man, 32 years old, was taken to hospital in critical condition. The second man succumbed to his injuries in hospital early Friday morning.

No arrests have been made; investigators with the VPD’s Major Crime Unit and Gang Crime Unit have been combing the scene of the shooting since last night and are expected to remain in the area throughout the day.

Few details are available at this time.
