From sushi rolls and boxes to ramen and Izakaya, when it comes to Japanese cuisine in Vancouver, there’s no shortage of choice.
Next time you’re downtown and hungry, you’re likely to be close to one of these five spots where you can fill up on Japanese for $10 or less.
Yamato Sushi
On the outskirts of Yaletown, Yamato Sushi offers generous portions for affordable prices. We recommend Box A, B, or C, that come with your choice of teriyaki chicken, beef, or pork, as well as gyozas, tempura and a California roll. Variety and flavour all packed in one box for $8.95.

Kyzock
Offering high quality, fresh ingredients, Kyzock is a well-known spot for their sushi (chirashi) bowls. Most are $10 or less, and come with your choice of protein on a bed of sushi rice. One of our favourites is the salmon, avocado and yam bowl for $10.

Hida Takayama Ramen
Don’t let the food court setting scare you away, as Hida Takayama has some of the best ramen in the city. We recommend the Shoyu ramen, which comes with a rich and flavourful broth, and a generous portion size for $8.25.

For a change from sushi or ramen, Izakaya is a great way to enjoy Japanese share plates. With two locations to choose from, check out Hapa Izakaya in Coal Harbour or Yaletown. For $10 or less, try the Ika Squid, Beef Tataki, or one of our favourites, the Ebi Mayo – tempura prawns with a spicy mayo.
