Thousands of students, faculty, staff, and members of the public descended onto the Main Mall of the University of British Columbia campus today for a massive campus-wide snowball fight.
Organizers with UBC Party Calendar told Daily Hive over 3,000 people were in attendance, well over the estimated 2,000 people that came to the same event in late-February 2014 when the city experienced a late-winter snowfall.
Snowballs began flying in the air en masse after a countdown at approximately 12:10 pm. The friendly hurling lasted for roughly 25 minutes.
“It was so much fun and it’ll probably go down as one of my best memories at UBC,” fourth year student and snowball fight participant Amanda Coulson told Daily Hive. “There has been so much to do during my last few years… these events have really created a sense of school spirit. I love it!”
Another student said their professor, during a lecture in the morning, told the entire class of 300 students that the snowball fight was happening, and that they should try not to miss it.
