Richmond is going green…as in matcha green tea. Japanese matcha powerhouse Tsujiri is set to go into the retail development at Central at Garden City, and we finally know more about what to expect, and when they hope to be open.

This first Western Canadian Tsujiri outpost will be in line with the company’s forthcoming new store concept, which they call “Yuwa.”

Yuwa translates to mean “harmony, fusion, collaboration,” a Tsujiri rep affiliated with the Richmond location told Daily Hive via e-mail.

The notion of Yuwa allows Tsujiri to tie together the brand’s rich 155-year history as an innovator and advancer of technology in the art of making gyokuro, the highest grade of green tea. So Yuwa then represents “the balance in between the extreme contrast of Tradition (Old) and innovation (New).”

The Central at Garden City Tsujiri will offer four sections: Drinks (Tea), Desserts, Pastries and Dine in. Of course, we know Tsujiri will be all about their beautiful ice cream, sundaes, shave ice, chiffon cake, and hot and cold drinks.

The Japan-based chain has locations around the world, including China, Taiwan, the UK, Australia, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia, among others, and has one Canadian location so far, in downtown Toronto.

The Richmond Tsujiri location is currently under construction, and their rep says they are aiming for an October open.
