Tri-Cities is filled with interesting events in May, from BC Water Week to a choral gathering and everything in between. To get you started, here are 10 things to do around Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody this month.

Port Coquitlam Heritage Walk

  • What: Join the Port Coquitlam Heritage and Cultural Society for a historic stroll around old Port Coquitlam guided by local historian Bryan Ness. The tour departs from the Museum and Archives and ends at the Bandshell in Leigh Square with a concert by Choral Connections.

Celebrate BC Water Week – Coquitlam Watershed Tour

  • What: ​To celebrate BC Water Week, sign up for a free Coquitlam Watershed Tour and learn about our local water from source to tap. Learn about the drinking water infrastructure and enjoy the views of the old growth forests and the Coquitlam Watershed.

Curious by Nature: Fraser River Life

  • What: Curious about bald eagles, sturgeon and other life on the Fraser River? Drop by this pop-up display to chat with a park interpreter. Presented by Metro Vancouver

  • When: May 13 from 10 am to noon

Mother’s Day Tea on the Train

  • What: Port Moody Heritage Society’s Mother’s Day Tea on the Train. Featuring an extensive tea selection, hot drinks, and treats from COBS Bread. Presented by the Port Moody Station Museum

Economic Summit 2017

  • What: The Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 3rd annual Economic Summit featuring keynote address from Dr. Sherry Cooper, Chief Economist of Dominion Lending Centres. Attendees will also hear three success stories from local professionals and and two panels made up of industry experts.

New Works Dance Allsorts presents Olivia C. Davies

  • What: Crow’s Nest and Other Places She’s Gone is a new dance-theatre work by Olivia C. Davies, developed in collaboration with Coast Salish storyteller, Rosemary Georgeson, performance artist, Anne Riley, and aerial dancer Emily Long. The work highlights women’s stories of travel and transitions, based on Contemporary Aboriginal vocabulary and story-weaving.

Meeting of the Melodies

  • What: Choirs from various centres and pavilions in the Lower Mainland have been invited to participate in Glen Pine’s Meeting of the Melodies Spring Concert in celebration of Canada’s 150th Birthday. Enjoy listening to these groups present musical magic and then come together to sing in perfect harmony. Light refreshments included.

Superstar X 2017

  • What: With inspiration from The X Factor and Kpop Star, Superstar X 2017 is a talent show with all profits going towards First Steps Canada. Singing and dancing acts of any genre are welcome, and winners will be chosen by a panel of judges.

Coquitlam Get Outside Day

  • What: Find out about outdoor opportunities in the community and let the experts tell you how to be prepared. Active outdoor games, climbing wall, sports, face painting and nature crafts for the children.

  • When: May 27 from 10 am to noon

RBC Race for the Kids – Lemonade Stand Fundraiser

  • What: A Fight Childhood Cancer Fundraiser to support BC Children’s Hospital Oncology and Mental Health. There will be a lemonade stand, raffles, and a TCBY frozen yogurt stand put on by RBC and a local PoCo family whose child survived stage 5 cancer. All efforts and proceeds are to give back to the local hospital that saved her.
