Canucks fans were shocked by a Wednesday afternoon announcement that Trevor Linden would be stepping down in his role as President of Hockey Operations.
Linden entered the role in April of 2014, shortly after Mike Gillis was fired.
One of the most popular players in Canucks history, his management career wasn’t quite as successful. After making the playoffs in his first season in charge, the Canucks have been the worst team in the NHL over the past three seasons.
With one of the most recognized players in Canucks history leaving the organization, hockey fans quickly took to Twitter to voice their thoughts.
What is happening with the #Canucks? Having Trevor there was the only reason I was holding out hope…

The era of Lindenning is over, as Trevor Linden resigns from the #Canucks. Jim Benning now takes control of the franchise for however long. Pretty big news.

Thank god Linden is stepping down. He was in way over his head & didn’t seem to be learning from his mistakes. #Canucks Wonder who will replace him …

As a big fan of what Linden accomplished as a player, I’m glad that he’ll be able to maintain his reputation in the city. Here’s hoping the #Canucks are able to find a qualified and experienced replacementhttps://t.co/bShMnkUpRc

#Canucks from Aquilini 9/12. “A rebuild is a long, slow, gradual process. Everybody needs to be united behind the same vision and pulling in the same direction.” Does that mean that Linden didn’t have the same vision? Is that why he stepped down?

Not sure Linden and ownership always saw eye to eye. Believe he would have stepped down if told to gas WD after his second year behind bench. #canucks

This is verrrrrryyyyy interesting to hear coming from The Boss. Really makes you wonder how much of a factor Linden’s identity of the #Canucks played into this decision. https://t.co/7xa9VNqxH7

I’ll be the new #Canucks president.
First order of business is I will be replacing Pizza HUT concessions within Rogers Arena with a superior pizza that will be named later.

I will always be grateful for the time he visited St. Paul Elementary School to surprise the principal…at the simple and humble request of the grade 7 class.
Along with @CanucksFIN, he made a lot of people – students and teachers alike – very happy that day. #Canucks https://t.co/8MGIh7Q8iH
