Kids across Metro Vancouver can ride the bus for free during the first week of October, TransLink has announced.

From Monday, October 1 to Friday, October 5, TransLink is offering free rides on all buses for young children and teenagers from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

The offering comes as part of TransLink’s annual I Love Transit Week, held every year in the first week of October. This year’s theme is “Connections—the future of transportation in Metro Vancouver.”

This year, free travel is limited to bus services; students cannot ride for free on SkyTrain, SeaBus, and the West Coast Express. Regular fares also apply to adults who accompany children and high school students on transit.

There will also be contests and giveaways, as part of the week-long festivities. Further information and details around these contests can be found on TransLink’s website.

The transportation authority said that in 2017, it saw 407 million boardings on its public transit services, over the course of the year, marking a record ridership for Metro Vancouver.
