There’s a reason Toronto laughs at Vancouver when we complain about cold weather.

While we bask in winter warmth of 7°C, Toronto woke up to the coldest January 5 on the record.

And according to Environment Canada, the prolonged period of very cold wind chills expected to reach Toronto this morning, including northwestern winds of up to 50 km/hr that will sweep through the city, the resulting wind chill values will reach somewhere between -35°C and -40°C.

Imagine waking up to that news in Vancouver?

So yes, while it is technically winter on the west coast, it’s mild and we are thankful that our layers and accessories just include a jacket and an umbrella… rather than every single piece of winter attire we own.

Check out the frozen scenes in Toronto right now, and carry your umbrellas proudly, Vancouver.
