The first guest in line, Alejandro Sanchez, lined up 17 hours prior to the opening of the three-storey cafe at Plaza Santo Domingo, Madrid, and was rewarded with free coffee for a year.

Meanwhile, a press release shares that despite the chilly winter weather, the Iced Capp has proven to be the most popular beverage amongst Spaniards.

Canadians abroad might want to check out the new spot too – if not for a taste of home then at least for a sampling of regionally-specific menu items including a tostada with tomato and ham gran reserve and dulce de leche filled donuts.

The newest location is the latest in RBI’s international growth strategy that will see similar expansion into markets in MexicoGreat Britain, and the Philippines.

The chain of cafes has already seen success abroad. In Dubai, for instance, Tims ranks especially high on Trip Advisor.
