From Harry Potter, to craft beer, there’s never a shortage of things to do around town. Here are five things to do in Vancouver today, Thursday, July 20.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

  • What: Awesome news for muggles! This is the first of eight performances by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, who are set to play all eight Harry Potter film scores live in concert over the summer.
  • Where: The Orpheum – 601 Smithe St, Vancouver
  • When: Thursday, July 21 and Friday, July 22 at 7pm, Saturday, July 23 at 2 pm

Vancouver Canadians vs Eugene Emeralds

  • What: Vancouver’s own minor league baseball team has a massive 14 games at home in July – including this face off against the Eugene Emeralds from Oregon.

Lord Jones is Dead

  • What: The free premiere of a new South African/Canadian feature satirical comedy that follows rival newspaper journalists staked out on a dead-end assignment who have to take matters in their own hands to get a story. Followed by a panel discussion on public/media access to information.

Craft Beer 101

  • What: Get a foundational knowledge of beer styles and how to enjoy them from CAMRA Vancouver. Eight beer styles from around the world will be sampled while the history of beer and the brewing process is explained.

  • When: Thursday, July 21, from 6 to 7:30 pm

CBC Musical Nooners

  • What: A series of free, live concerts at the CBC Plaza, every weekday at lunchtime. The lineup this year includes The Tourist Company, Jordan Klassen, Big Little Lions and for the kids, Will Stroet, co-creator and star of the musical TV series Will’s Jams.
  • When: From July 8 to August 19, Monday to Friday, noon to 1 pm
