Relax: The Cobalt in East Van isn’t closing down forever

An iconic entertainment venue in East Vancouver looks it could be closing soon… for repairs.

In an Instagram post, the operators of the venue on the corner of Main and Prior Street addressed the speculation that The Cobalt could be closing forever and said the potential closure would be to give the building some “much-needed” upgrades.

“Unfortunately for the bars, it looks like we may be asked to close during these repairs as the main focus will be replacing a sh*tload of the floors.”

The Cobalt’s operators admit they “haven’t been told the scope of the work, or even if the work will happen, but the impression is that it will probably happen and it’ll be big.”

While they wish they had more information to offer, “we haven’t been told when the work will start or when we may be asked to close, but it could be within the next few months.”

However, The Cobalt said it’s giving people the heads-up now, because “we just don’t want it to come as a total shock to you if and when it happens.”
