Easy ways you can help others in celebration of Canada's 150th

It’s Canada’s 150th birthday so you’ll want to do something special to commemorate the occasion.

And this year, you have a chance to do something spectacular because you can participate in TELUS‘ #MillionHours. By volunteering one hour of your time in your community, you can help make a positive difference and inspire the next 150 years of giving in Canada.

All you have to do is make a pledge online to help out in your local area and encourage your friends and family to join you by using the #MillionHours hashtag in social media. You can pledge for a healthier Canada, a greener planet, or educating youth.

This awesome journey kicked off with the annual TELUS Days of Giving events, which kicked off across the country on May 13. And this time you can celebrate the 12th year of the Days of Giving events – which help bring together TELUS employees, retirees, family, and friends, across Canada and around the world to volunteer for local causes.

Why? So these individuals can make positive, heartfelt, and lasting connections within their communities. Over the years, TELUS Days of Giving has brought together more than 130,000 TELUS employees, retirees, family, and friends at volunteer events.

In more than 10 years, the volunteers have sorted more than 1.6 million pounds of food at local food banks, collected more than 12,000 bags of waste to clean up their communities, assembled more than 100,000 backpacks filled with essential school supplies for underprivileged children, and planted nearly 70,000 trees along with plants in parks across Canada.

The volunteers have also served more than 120,000 meals to those in need. And this year, between May 11 and June 13, TELUS estimated that 21,000 people will be participating in more than 1,500 volunteer activities across Canada.

TELUS Days of Giving activities that you can help out with include:

  • Road and shoreline clean-ups
  • Planting trees and community gardens
  • Collecting waste and keeping our communities clean
  • Sorting food at food banks
  • Serving meals to those who need it most

TELUS believes in the symbiotic relationship between business success and the welfare of our communities. As a result, TELUS team members have been inspired to volunteer in support of causes close to their hearts.

Since 2000, TELUS has contributed nearly $500 million and volunteered more than 7.7 million volunteer hours within our local communities. And in 2016 alone, the firm donated more than $42 million dollars to local communities across Canada and volunteered more than 870,000 hours.
