One person has been killed and a second injured after a shooting incident in North Surrey on Friday evening.

According to Surrey RCMP, at approximately 8:55 pm, officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 11300 block of Alpen Place. When officers arrived at the scene, they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

One individual was declared deceased at the scene while a second victim was transported to hospital.

Few details are available as the investigation is still in its early stages, but police say the incident was targeted.

“The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has attended scene and are working with Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Unit and the Integrated Forensic Identification Section to process the scene,” reads a release. “Officers are conducting neighbourhood canvassing and speaking with witnesses to obtain further information.”

To allow for the investigation, Crestview Drive between 133A Street and 136th Street will be closed to all traffic for some time.

Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-4448 or Crime Stoppers’ anonymous hotline at 1-800-222-8477.
