Police incident prompts closure of Surrey elementary school

A Surrey elementary school is temporarily closed as a precaution as a result of a police incident in the immediate area.

According to the local school board, J.T. Brown Elementary School at 12530-60 Avenue in the Newton neighbourhood is closed until at least noon today. The incident is unrelated with the school, and the area was cordoned off before the start of the school day.

Photos and videos posted onto social media show a heavy police presence, including an armoured police vehicle that closely resembles a military tank.
