10 things to do in Surrey this August

Summer rolls on and August is bringing many fun events to Surrey, including Movies in the Park, Battles of the Brews, and more. Here is our list of 10 things to do around the city this month.

Movies Under the Stars

  • What: Movies Under the Stars brings free outdoor films to Holland Park. Gather your blankets and lawn chairs and cozy up in front of a big screen for Ferdinand (August 4), Coco (August 11), Paddington 2 (August 18) and Wonder (August 25). Movies start after dusk but attendees are encouraged to arrive earlier to find a good seat and to enjoy the pre-show entertainment. Starting at 5 pm, there will be fun activities before the movie begins.

Clayton Community Farmers’ Market

  • What: The Clayton Community Farmers’ Market community is made up of a diverse community of farmers, fishers, artisans, food preparers and more. There will also be a Family Fun Zone, live music and food trucks.
  • When: Alternating Sundays from August 5 to September 30, 2018

Art in the Plaza

  • What: Have fun in the sun and make art. As skyscrapers rise up around City Centre, construct your own cardboard tower. This activity mixes together textiles, drawing, stickers, and lego-like stacking.

Amrit Bains: Rocking The Summer

  • What: Amrit Bains’ 4th annual concert at the Main Stage at Surrey Arts Centre promises to be high energy and fun-filled with many catchy tunes.

Vintage Vacations Tea & Talk

  • What: Pack up your suitcase and take a trip down memory lane as you explore popular vacation spots and activities from the early 20th century. Explore artifacts, newspaper clippings, photographs and music from the Museum of Surrey. Tea, coffee and a light lunch is also included.

Cloverdale Market Days

  • What: Cloverdale Market Days feature unique items from local BC Artisans and treasures from the downtown merchants with more than 100 vendors. Mix it up with street entertainment and food trucks, and you’ve got a destination outing for the whole family.

The Fish Eyes Trilogy

  • What: Anita Majumdar’s one-person The Fish Eyes Trilogy—presented in two parts—is a window into the lives of Canadian South Asian teens. Through this lens, Anita focuses on universal themes of identity, cultural heritage, and finding one’s place in the world.

Come Try Ringette

  • What: Join the Surrey White Rock Ringette Association for a free day at the rink trying out ringette. All you need to participate is some warm clothes and a pair of gloves. If you have your own skates or helmet, please bring these with you. If not, helmet and skates will be available.

Battle of the Brews

  • What: The Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society and 102.7 THE PEAK host the 2nd Annual Battle of the Brews. This fun charity event will offer attendees a great afternoon of craft beer tasting and delicious food sampling. Attendees will get the chance to help choose their favourite beers and all proceeds from the event will fund Athletics 4 Kids and Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society youth initiatives.

Summer Art Gala

  • What: An evening of art, music, and hands-on activities featuring talented youth. Singers, musicians, writers and visual artists will be showcased along with an array of stunning artwork. Take a tour through our art gallery, grab some free food and drinks, and watch the artists perform live onstage, then join the youth DJ’s for the after-party.
