Strut your highest heels along Vancouver's Seawall to support LGBTQ refugees

May 30 2018, 1:09 am

Get on your highest pair of heels and be prepared to strut all for a good cause supporting LGBTQ asylum seekers and refugees.

STRUT is an annual walkathon that raises funds for Foundation of Hope’s (FOH) commitment to support LGBTQ newcomers to Canada.

Since 2015, FOH has funded over 20 projects valued over $150,000 to charities supporting LGBTQ asylum seekers and refugees who came to Canada to escape violence and trauma.

This year, the STRUT event will be taking place in Vancouver on June 9, and participants will take on the challenge to walk a mile in heels along the Seawall.

There will also be a very special pair of heels travelling from LA to Vancouver to be displayed at STRUT as a symbol of strength and activism.

Earlier this year, global fitness brand Equinox commissioned Shayne Oliver to design a special pair of heels known as the Stonewall Stilettos. The shoes are from the fabric from the Stonewall Inn, the site of the 1969 riots that launched the gay rights movement.

To support STRUT’s message, Equinox will kick off the walkathon with a guided meditation centred around the importance of inclusivity and the power of community.
