Spade: Prado Cafe owner opens new concept on Commercial Drive

Nov 16 2017, 3:30 am

Spade, a new concept from Prado Cafe owner Sammy Piccolo has officially opened its doors on Commercial Drive as of today, November 15.

The space, located at 1858 Commercial Drive, will offer patrons coffee, spirits, treats, and small plates during its opening hours (open early, closing late) seven days a week. These hours will allow Spade to transform from a bustling coffee shop in the day to a cozy restaurant for evening and late night service.

Aiming to be a favourite neighbourhood haunt and inspired by European-style coffee bars, Spade, which means sword in Italian, features authentic flavours from the boot-shaped country and offers house made pastries (think almond frangipane and eclairs), egg sandwiches, house made focaccia with herbs, mixed charcuterie and cheese boards, and classic pasta.

You’ll find locally-sourced ingredients from purveyors like Avalon Dairy, Cioffi’s, and Two Rivers Meats, which you can enjoy in the 40-seat space which features a 14-foot communal table, a green living wall, and vaulted ceilings.

Spade will be serving up their own custom 49th Parallel Coffee Roasters blends, cocktails (Negroni, Espresso Martini, and Prosecco Margarita), wine, and local brews such as 33 Acres and Parallel 49.

The bar in this spot also features a Spirit Triplette Espresso machine and Seraphim Pourover by Curtis to appease those coffee lovers who are itching for a top-notch caffeinated experience.

Expect the offerings here to change – Spade will feature a seasonal menu for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and of course, Sunday brunch.
