1,000-foot-long Slide The City returns to North Vancouver this weekend

Up to 12,000 people are expected to slide down a 1,000-ft-long slip-and-slide on the slope of Lonsdale Avenue over the weekend for the third annual Slide The City event in North Vancouver.

Over both Saturday, August 12 and Sunday, August 13, sliders will use inner tubes and go down the hill – traveling at gravity-fed speeds of up to 15 km/hr – along a four-block-long stretch from Victoria Park at Keith Road to 4th Street, where they will finish by entering into a large splash pool.

Passes to go down the slip-and-slide range between USD$30 and USD$65 are still available on the event’s website.

So much more than just the slide

Tens of thousands more from across the region are expected to be along the slide’s sidelines to watch the epic spectacle and take in other activities and festivities in Lower Lonsdale.

Slide The City coincides with North Vancouver’s free Fun City Festival, formerly known as Car Free Day North Vancouver.

From the slide’s finish line at 4th Street to the foot of Lonsdale at Carrie Cates Ct, expect a street festival with vendors, food trucks, roving performers, DJs and live music on multiple outdoor stages.

Headliners for the free concert on the main stage are local artists Andrew Allen and The Boom Booms.
