Single in Vancouver: Glowbal

Dec 19 2017, 2:27 pm

Single in Vancouver? On the streets of Yaletown, equipped with impossible to walk in heels and sporting a consecutive arm latch, my girlfriends and I have infiltrated Glowbal on several occasions. Refined and contemporary with a splash of elegance, Glowbal Grill has gained well-deserved recognition in Vancouver’s restaurant scene. Suitable for a casual business lunch, early evening dinner, your next birthday celebration, or a night out with single friends, this spot at 1079 Mainland Street continues to impress.

Executive Chef, Jason Vallee, offers up a mouthwatering selection of distinct dishes prepared in the exposed kitchen. Be sure to leave room for the fall inspired Pumpkin Crème Brule. Packed full on weekends, don’t expect a table in the 100 seat dining room without a reservation. No need to fret because there is always sufficient room to lurk near the bar side where you will likely find potential suitors eager to offer you a drink.

Open until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays, Glowbal Grill serves a majority of Vancouver’s attractive and well-dressed dwellers who may or may not look that way by closing.  For those of you (females) looking for an excuse to wear additional makeup, spend an extended and unnecessary period of time on your hair and wear something your mother wouldn’t be proud of, – look no further. Leave your flat shoes and baggy (yet fashionable) boyfriend jeans at home because Glowbal is no place for casual wear. Attracting an older (but, importantly, not elderly) crowd, it’s a relief to know you won’t be amongst the just legal crowd (sorry men.) Perhaps the idea of standing at a bar seems distressing but, in actuality, you will be forced to make conversation, get a little personal and will be at the perfect height to scan the bar for candidates.

Just when you thought “Vancity Buzz makes this place sound AMAZING and I’ll have to check it out,” it gets better my friends; Afterglow, a 50 seat lavish and cozy lounge is located down the hall from the dining room. To sum up this astonishing piece of information for the single population: you get a taste of a new setting, with new people without actually changing locations. Previously, as I stood at the Glowbal Grill bar (sipping on a bottle of Bud while the blondes with impressive chests and legs for days sipped on martinis) I wondered where the heck all of good-looking people walking past me were headed. Being the “creeper” that I am, I investigated their final destination to find After Glow, clearly the place to be.

Impressed by just one of their many restaurants, it’s safe to say the Glowbal Collection has mastered the art of success. Expect more to come as Glowbal Grill is one of six Global Collection establishments. I am pleased to officially add Glowbal to my list of places to meet singles in Vancouver.
