Shaun White to compete at Vans Park Series in Vancouver this week

The Vans Park Series returns to Vancouver this Friday, and this year it’ll have a little extra star power.

The two-day free event at Hastings Skatepark in East Van features world-class professional park terrain skateboarders. Daily Hive can confirm that will also include Shaun White, a three-time Olympic gold medallist in snowboarding.

Skateboarding will make its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, which has piqued the interest of the 31-year-old.

“I’ve entered myself into a couple of skateboarding competitions this summer,” White announced on his personal Instagram page last week. “I haven’t officially decided to go for the Summer Olympics in 2020 in Japan, but I’m going to try myself out at these events and see where I stack up with the other skaters and make the decision.”

It makes sense that White would start his journey to Tokyo in Vancouver, as Cypress Mountain was the location where he won Olympic gold in 2010. The American says he’s not retiring from snowboarding, but called the idea of competing at the Summer Games a “dream.”

“If I could make the Summer Olympic team, going from Winter in Korea to Summer in Japan, it would probably be the ultimate for me.”

White is no stranger to the sport of skateboarding, winning a gold medal in vert at the X-Games in 2011, but clearly he’s out of practice.
