Rumpus Room closing: popular Main Street restaurant shutting doors to make way for condos

Mount Pleasant’s Rumpus Room at 2689 Main Street is closing down for good to make way for condos.

Co-owner Rachel Zottenberg made the announcement earlier today on Facebook:

So I’m writing this with the most heaviest f$%&ing heart in my life. After the most brutal battle, we are being kicked out of the Rumpus Room at the end of the month. Condos.. right.. you’ve heard this all before. Yay for the new Main Street. Good for you.
I LOVE THIS PLACE. This, my first restaurant. This, the place I opened with my best friend in the world David Duprey. This, the place where my family lives Christie Knodel, Natalie Tillen, Mike Brown, Cameron Macleod,Cyan Cody, Ana Krunic, Kat Kingsland all of you… This wonderful wonderful place. I’m going to miss you so much! So much love Rachey Zott

Last summer, we named the Rumpus Room’s patio as one of Vancouver best patios. The quirky Main Street restaurant serves up comfort food with a twist (peanut butter burger, anyone?). With its kitschy décor, plastic flamingo-adorned patio, and impressive board game collection, The Rumpus Room successfully recreated the feeling of hanging out in a 1980s recreational room.
