Feb 15 2017, 11:29 pm

A rock slide Tuesday evening has shut down the Trans-Canada Highway for more than 12 hours and counting.

According to the Ministry of Transportation, the slide occurred just north of Hope before 6 pm. There is no estimated time of opening, and an assessment and cleanup will not be done until daylight.

An update on the situation will be provided at 10 am Wednesday. Until the route reopens, drivers are asked to detour through Highway 3 and Highway 5.

A freezing rain travel advisory has also been issued for Highway 1 from Cache Creek to Spences Bridges. The provincial government does not recommend motorists to travel through this route at this time.

Earlier this morning, a rock slide also briefly shut down the Sea to Sky Highway near Squamish.

And within Metro Vancouver, two separate collisions on the northbound direction of the Alex Fraser Bridge is causing major backups.
