The Burnaby RCMP are in the process of investigating a serious motorcycle collision that took place on Saturday, June 16 in the late afternoon and early evening.

At approximately 5 pm, a motorcycle was travelling southbound on Griffiths Drive. The driver and his vehicle collided with a Mini Cooper at the intersection of 18th avenue.

The motorcyclist, a 28-year-old male, was thrown from his vehicle and sent to the hospital immediately. According to the RCMP, he is currently in serious and possibly life-threatening condition.

The driver of the Mini Cooper was also taken to the hospital, however, they only sustained minor injuries.

At this point in time, the RCMP are still investigating the collision. While alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been involved in the crash, excessive speed may have been a contributing factor.

Motorcycle crashes in BC peak in the summer, as the warmer weather and conditions bring more riders onto the road.

Police are taking this opportunity to remind all motorists to obey posted speed limits and “always be prepared for the unexpected.”
