Less than a month into the New Year, we already have a contender for most bizarre crime spree of 2018 – someone keeps setting porta potties on fire in Vancouver.

According to police, between December 9, 2017 and January 19, 2018, seven portable washrooms in the downtown core have been deliberately set ablaze.

Police say the arsons have taken place in the late evening or early morning hours, and in some instances other buildings have also caught on fire.

No one has been injured on any of these occasions, say police.

Arson investigators are advising the public to be careful and report any suspicious activity around porta potties to police.

Anyone who may have a portable washroom on their property should do the following during overnight hours:

  • move the porta potty away from any building or structure
  • lock and secure each porta potty
  • remove toilet paper and hand sanitizer

Anyone with any information about these fires should contact the VPD’s Arson Unit at 604-717-2541 or to remain anonymous contact Crime Stoppers at solvecrime.ca.
