It may have the same old name, but the newly-opened and renovated Pender Grocery is a breath of fresh air in Downtown Vancouver.

It just opened on July 18, and to get straight to the point – the space is simply and truly damn adorable.

It’s got vintage vibes thanks to the paint job and decor – not to mention the recently-discovered and preserved 110-year old sign reading “Business Office Of The Daily World” – a sign commissioned for The Vancouver Daily World, a local newspaper that stopped production in 1924.

The charming new downtown grocery and snack destination is right next to Finch’s Cafe and the American Backpackers Hostel at Pender and Homer.

The concept, a community spot offering local products, Spanish specialty items, and useful household objects, is a nice addition to this neighbourhood, which already has a plethora of sit down restaurants and over the counter eateries and bars just a few blocks away in Gastown.

This space is small but mighty. At just 600 square feet, Pender Grocery is packed to the brim with a selection of breads, chips, beverages, fresh produce, dairy (eggs, cheese), snacks, and chocolate to name a few.
