A 23-year-old woman is dead after she was hit by a car while crossing the street at a marked crosswalk in East Vancouver on Wednesday night.

According to police, the incident took place around 9:15 pm at East 12 Avenue and Clark Drive.

The woman and her friend were in the crosswalk when they were hit by the driver of a white Honda Civic that was turning west from Clark.

Emergency crews responded and the woman was rushed to hospital with what at first were believed to be “minor” wounds.

However, police said her condition “deteriorated” and the woman succumbed to her injuries early Thursday morning.

The 61-year-old driver, a Vancouver resident, remained on scene and is cooperating with officers.

Impairment and speed do not appear to be factors in the incident, police added.

The incident is Vancouver’s second pedestrian death of 2018.
