A sweet, nostalgic, and hopeful celebration packed with fireworks and live music will return to Coal Harbour in downtown Vancouver on December 31, 2016 to ring in the New Year on the North American West Coast.

After last year’s highly successful inaugural event attracting over 80,000 attendees, making it the largest New Year’s Eve celebration in Canada, organizers of Concord’s New Year’s Eve Vancouver are promising a significantly expanded event that heightens the revelry and showcases the city in all her festive beauty.

“Concord Pacific is proud and honoured to be involved in a bigger way this year and is pleased to announce a title partnership with Concord’s New Year’s Eve Vancouver celebration,” said Terry Hui, President and CEO of Concord Pacific, in a statement.

“Concord Pacific believes in supporting city-wide, family-oriented events in the communities that we develop. We have been working with the Vancouver New Year’s Eve Celebration Society, volunteers, BRANDLIVE and the City since the inception of this event and we believe that 2016 will be the best celebration in the country.”

This year’s event organized by the Vancouver New Year’s Eve Celebration Society is supported by the Government of Canada, City of Vancouver, The Peak/JRFM, RE/MAX, United Way, Dine Alone Records, Haven Sounds, Tymac, WestPark, Phillips Brewing, and founding partners Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association, Daily Hive, Tourism Vancouver, Boughton Law, Port of Vancouver, Vanterre Projects Corp., Starbucks, and BDO.

The Society was founded in 2012 by Daily Hive CEO Karm Sumal and Features Editor Kenneth Chan who both saw an overwhelming demand for a major, free public event in the city to celebrate New Year’s revelry.

Free public outdoor celebration

The second annual Concord’s New Year’s Eve Vancouver on Canada Place Way consists of two concert stages, a new tall countdown clock tower, and food trucks and sponsor activations along Canada Place Way.

The free public celebration takes place from 6:30 pm to 12:10 am and consists of two high-aerial fireworks displays launched from a barge: a 9 pm Early Eve fireworks display for families with young children and a midnight countdown with a spectacular fireworks finale.

Juno Award-winning The Sheepdogs will headline the event at the main outdoor stage and will be preceded by a diverse and talented lineup that includes Wintersleep, Yukon Blonde, Humans, Spencer Burton, Meghan Patrick, Dan Davidson, Delhi 2 Dublin, and Crystal Shawanda.

The biggest and best ballroom NYE event in Vancouver

Another addition to this year’s Concord’s New Year’s Eve celebrations will be the inclusion of a major indoor event inside the West Building of the Vancouver Convention Centre within the stunningly beautiful West Ballrooms.

This premium experience event, dubbed as TRUE NORTH, will have its own high-calibre live entertainment programming within two ballrooms. The New Pornographers will take centre stage at this indoor event, joining a TRUE NORTH lineup that includes Yukon Blonde, Megan Patrick, Humans, and Delhi 2 Dublin in one ballroom and DJs Kevin Shiu, Andy Clockwork, and Hebergebe in another ballroom.

All revellers at the indoor event will have access to both ballrooms as well as the ability to enjoy the midnight fireworks from indoors through the multi-storey, floor-to-ceiling glass walls of the convention centre or the private outdoors areas on the Pacific Terrace, the location of the Digital Orca sculpture, overlooking Jack Poole Plaza.

TRUE NORTH is the only major indoor event offering an up-close, premium view of Vancouver’s New Year’s Eve fireworks. The party will continue well beyond midnight into the early morning hours of New Year’s Day.

Premium outdoor viewing areas for fireworks

There will be two new and enhanced premium viewing outdoor experiences for the stunning fireworks displays.

The RE/MAX Family Zone consists of an indoor activity area inside Canada Place and along the outdoor West Promenade of the pier for viewing of the fireworks. The indoor area of this Family Zone will feature family-focused activities such as face painting, crafts, and arcade games as well as access to indoor washrooms.

Another Outdoor Fireworks Viewing Zone will be located along the seawall of the North promenade of the West Building of the Vancouver Convention Centre, which will guarantee a direct view of the fireworks launched over Coal Harbour.

Revellers in both areas will have in-and-out privileges to enjoy the entertainment on the outdoor concert stages before the midnight fireworks.
