A 27-year-old man was hospitalized after two men attacked him in a New Westminster park on Wednesday afternoon.

The attack happened around 4 pm, near the northeast Moody Park baseball diamond, say police.

The victim was punched and kicked “multiple times” by two young men and hit on the head with a weapon, said NWPD Sgt. Jeff Scott.

The man was hospitalized, and received stitches for a head wound.

Now, police are asking for witnesses to the attack.

“At the time of the assault the surrounding area would have been busy with motorists and park goers and we’re appealing for anyone that can assist with the police investigation to come forward,” Scott said.

He added that the attack appears to be targeted and it’s possible the suspects may be known to the victim.

“The public is not at an increased risk,” Scott furthered.

Anyone with information is asked to contact New Westminster Police at 604-525-5411, or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or solvecrime.ca.
